Our COVID-19 Response

Delta Dental of Virginia understands the challenges and hardships that COVID-19 is causing in our communities. As a result, we have taken the following steps to accommodate the needs of our employers, members, dentists, brokers and those in our communities who are uninsured. 

Employers and Members

  • 50% credit on July 2020 premium invoices for fully-insured groups
  • Extended grace periods for groups and individual members
  • Flexibility in coverage for furloughed employees and those with reduced hours
  • Flexibility for certain waiting periods
  • Waived the 24-month lock-out for individual members who cancel their policies and want to return

Member resources


  • Created a $3 million Provider Assistance Program to provide funds directly to all of our Virginia network dentists. 
  • Awarded $280,000 in grants to participating dental practices that were struggling as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and did not qualify for financial assistance through government and other programs.
  • Awarded Amazon gift cards to Virginia dental hygienists through #SmilesArentCanceled campaign
  • Temporarily increased the reimbursement to dentists for covered services delivered by tele-dentistry
